RECAMFT is an organization dedicated to maintaining the professional standards and ethics as defined by the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists (CAMFT.org). We provide the local Sonoma County community with information about the services and expertise of Marriage and Family Therapists and offer professional networking, educational activities and events for the membership.
Our Mission: "The purpose of RECAMFT is to promote and maintain professional competence and integrity with knowledge, innovation, compassion, humor and respect for human dignity and diversity. We do this by providing opportunities for networking, education and community outreach.”
from Doreen Van Leeuwen, LMFT
Welcome to the Redwood Empire Chapter of the California Association of Marriage and Family Therapists! We provide stimulating presentations the first Friday of every month (except July and August), along with time to network and the chance to win a raffle prize, all while you nosh on yummy selections from our brunch. You will be warmly welcomed at the door and receive CEUs for listening to engaging speakers. Uhhh, why wouldn’t you join us??
I’m honored and humbled to serve such a dedicated association. Our Leadership Circle and committee volunteers work so hard to make our mission statement a living reality. We want you to attend and discover just how valuable a resource RECAMFT could be for you!
Along with the excellent programs for our clinical community, RECAMFT continues to stand by the colleagues in our chapter who lost homes and businesses in the 2017 NorCal Wildfires. We have played an active role in community-wide outreach and care for our disaster-stricken community throughout 2018.
While recovery continues as a predominant theme in Sonoma County, as incoming President I want to underscore the significance of maintaining resilience and being ready. Disasters, whether personal or national, are unpredictable! But, readiness and steadiness in the face of the unimaginable, are entirely doable and achievable. I invite you to join us onto that important journey (and if you are already there, BRAVO!).
Please explore our website, come to our meetings, or contact us to find out more about this dynamic group of the best colleagues you could ever have. Direct your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org. Welcome to RECAMFT!
With gratitude for our important work together,
Doreen Van Leeuwen, LMFT

In the wake of the Kincade fire, a message from
President Doreen Van Leeuwen
Advanced Critical Incident Responder, Disaster Mental Health Specialist.
Our area has been laid siege once again by the histrionics of Mother Nature, and we are again confronted with devastating images, triggering winds and heat, massive displacement, and uncertainty all around. We can take comfort in the fact that it appears as of this writing that there has been no loss of life. But there is trauma, fear, and grief & loss all around us again.
My heart goes out to this community of healers that I am so deeply proud to be part of, and about which I am so concerned. It is my sincere hope that our members are spared the worst of the destruction, but I also know that you are all impacted in smaller and bigger ways as this series of incidents drags on. Although I have been evacuated I have a safe place to stay, and I am well.
Should any of you need debriefing, I am glad to set up some one-on-one time for you via video or face-to-face. I am also available to set up a group debriefing as soon as it seems safe to move around again. I know many of you are spread hither and yon, making it difficult to plan anything, and, I don’t want to necessitate any more driving than necessary for any of you right now.
Please contact me if you have a need for some assistance, and we will do what we can to help with resources on hand. I can be reached at 951-347-1837 or email@example.com.
With thanks and love for each of you,
Doreen Van Leeuwen, LMFT
RECAMFT is in the news - again! CAMFT 2017-18 President, and RECAMFT member Dr. Bob Casanova was quoted in his role as an LMFT as he prepared to evacuate during the Kincade fire, in "Evacuation orders create agonizing decision for Sonoma County residents" by Julie Johnson.
Pulitzer prize-winning staff published an article about how our community was coping approximately 10 months after the 2017 fires. Our own President Elect and disaster mental health expert, Doreen Van Leeuwen, was interviewed for this wonderful article.
