About RECAMFT Emeritus Members

Some of the RECAMFT members who appear in our Therapist Directory are Emeritus Members, which means they have practiced psychotherapy for many years, and are now retired.

These member profiles will still show up in our Therapist Directory because these are valued members of our chapter who may be making themselves available to their colleagues for consultation and professional support.

If you are a member of the public who is looking for a therapist, then you'll want to please continue your search rather than reaching out to an Emeritus member, as they are no longer licensed to practice therapy.

If you are a long-time RECAMFT Clinical LMFT member who is interested in our Emeritus membership, please check this list of membership qualifications:

Emeritus membership in RECAMFT is open to our members who are:
  1. At least 65 years of age
  2. Formally retired from the practice of therapy, as indicated by having applied for their license to be "retired" and made inactive by the BBS
  3. Formerly a Clinical LMFT Member of RECAMFT for at least five years
  4. Currently an Emeritus member of State CAMFT, which requires having been a member in good standing for at least ten consecutive years

Membership in State CAMFT must be maintained while a member of RECAMFT.

Emeritus members may participate in all RECAMFT events at member rates, though please note, this membership does not qualify for earning CEs.

Emeritus members may choose to still be included in the RECAMFT Therapist Directory, and a note will appear in your profile indicating you are retired. If you would like for your profile to no longer be included, you may change the profile settings to hide the profile from showing up at all.

Active LMFT members who meet these requirements may self-upgrade through their account profile. Log on to the site, then click your name at the top of the screen to access your profile. Scroll down to the section beneath the membership card to find the "Change" link. This will take you to an option to switch to Emeritus.
